Liam's Eurovision Dagbok

Boys Jed sad over the score

There's no denying it — everyone in Team Ireland, especially Jedward, are gutted over the result
 in Azerbaijan.

No one is really sure what went wrong.

I just wonder if all the hype about Jedward’s song worked against us.

Maybe people assumed we’d get the votes anyway and didn’t bother backing us?
The only consolation we have is that everyone gave it their all, the guys gave a brilliant
performance and the best song won on the night.

Loreen’s a bubbly gal

The Eurovision winner Loreen and the entire Swedish delegation were staying in our hotel.
So when we arrived back with our tails between our legs at around 5am we walked straight
into the celebrations for Sweden. It was hard to get into the party mood but we perked up to
share a glass of champagne with them and then we all went for breakfast. When we were leaving
for our flight at 7am they were all still up cracking open bottles of bubbly!

The lads keep the Jed up

It’s onwards and upwards for Jedward. They’re saying they’ve had a knock
back but it’s not a knock-out. We head to Germany tomorrow where they appear
on TV before coming back to Ireland for gigs next weekend. And tickets for their next tour are selling out!

"Ingen mer Eurovision för vår del"

It's U2's turn: Jedward say they won't do Eurovision again (unless the Irish President asks)
Posted on May 28, 2012 at 6:35 AM

Jedward jetted home from Azerbaijan yesterday and insisted: "Ireland can still win the Eurovision ."

But the wacky twins, 20, admitted they won't be hoping to head back to Eurovision for a third year running - unless the President asks them to do it.

Now the lads want U2 to man up and represent Ireland at next year's concert in Sweden - to ensure Ireland definitely win again.

Edward said: "I think Ireland is going to win next year with somebody else."

"I think Bono should go. Or Robbie Williams."

John smiled: "I think we'll leave it to somebody else to do it next year. We'll leave it to a new artist out there who is undiscovered.

"Ireland do have a chance of winning - we've won seven times before."

Edward added: "We never know what will happen. If the President rings us up and says, 'John and Edward, we need you. Seriously we need you guys'. Then we'll think about it."

The lads were mobbed by more than 500 fans who turned up to welcome them home at Dublin Airport - with some even chasing them around the car park.

Despite coming a disappointing 19th place with Waterline in Baku , the boys want to help pick next year's entrant - who needs to be just as energetic as them.

John said: "It's about getting the whole nation involved - with us everybody wanted to watch it.

"The person who does it next year needs to have a good following."

Edward added: "We could have our own TV show on RTE to find the next person to represent Ireland."

And the Dubliners believe they could have been scuppered by dopey fans who managed to get the number of their performance wrong.

Edward said: "I think they could have got their votes mixed up between 24 and 23 - maybe they got the number wrong.

"Maybe they thought we were 24 and voted for Serbia."

But the Grimes brothers insisted they won't be sobbing over their poor result - and promised they will use their flat hair again.

John said: "We're never disappointed because we've gained so many fans. We've been to a totally different part of the world, we never imagined we'd be to."

Edward added: "I think it was good that me and John introduced flat hair because before that it was an undercurrent thing, so it's good that so many people saw us with flat hair. And yes we will use flat hair again."

The boys also revealed they were happy that Sweden took the trophy home - after becoming good pals with Loreen who was staying at their hotel.

John said: "We were friends with Loreen so it's really great that she won.

"We used to see her at breakfast each morning and she's really cool."

Visst är det en gullig bild =:) <3

Edward: "Ja,vi är helt klart besvikna."

Jedward admitted last night that they are bitterly disappointed with their 19th placing in the Eurovision.

John and Edward, who jetted in from Baku in Azerbaijan last night, confessed they had expected to do better.

“Me and John, we’re like really disappointed with the results,” said Edward.

“It was crazy because we definitely hoped to do better in the votes. We thought we had a totally Jepic song with Waterline. We gave it everything but we wanted to get lots more votes for Ireland.” Gutted Edward added: “We’d like to thank The Star for all their support and all our Irish fans who supported us out in Baku.

“And we’d like to thank all the team who were out there with us who all worked so hard.” The pair insisted that they left Azerbaijan with many happy memories. “We were a bit, ‘What the heck?’ when we didn’t get all the votes we wanted but we had a great time in Azerbaijan,” said Edward.

“It was great to have the chance to represent Ireland for the second time in Azerbaijan. Me and John want to say that Sweden definitely deserved to win — Loreen was wearing one of our Jedheads this morning. And we were like presidents in Azerbaijan — everyone treated all of us so well and we made so many fans there too.”

Typically, Jedward were bursting with energy and positive attitude when they arrived at Dublin Airport to a gang of screaming fans. And the two received a deservedly Jepic welcome home — with the terminal packed full of supporters. “We haven’t gone to bed at all — our sleep patterns are all over the place,” they told reporters at a press conference in the VIP suite in Terminal 1. And the pair were far from dejected with their time in Azerbaijan.

They said: “We had an awesome time. We totally rocked it. I think we are still really influential around the world.” The popstars, who were looking smart in striped suits with a red tie and purple shoes, had their hair back up in their usual Jedward fashion. When asked if they thought having flat hair on the night of the Eurovision final lost them votes they said: “It’s not about the hair, it’s about the substance and quality.”

They said they will wear their hair flat in public again, while adding that they would not be representing Ireland next year but suggesting that maybe “Bono should”. Edward said: “If the President rings and says, ‘Jedward we need you guys’ then we will think about it.” Jedward added that whoever goes next year would get “a group hug or something and some tips” from them.

And the twins insisted they are now getting back to work and concentrating on their new album Young Love due for release on June 22 and a new tour. It also emerged yesterday that the twins fared much better in the voting for their semi-final last Tuesday night when they qualified for Eurovision.

John and Edward came sixth out of the 18 countries in their semi. The Russian grannies topped the voting and went on to come second in the Eurovision song contest. The eventual winner Sweden came first in the second semi-final for the Eurovision, followed by Serbia, which came third in the Eurovision finals.

The twins are representing Ireland for the second time
in tomorrow's Eurovision Song

Jedward have revealed they want to return to the Eurovision next year -
 but not to represent

Before even taking part in tomorrow's final,
the brothers have begun hatching plans to try out for Russia.

The pop twins admitted they've fallen in love with the
church-going pensioners who are representing the world's largest country this year.

Now the 20-year-olds want to do their friendship with the
old ladies proud and take their place next year despite not speaking the language.

And amazingly the boys would be able to represent Russia -
as it has open auditions.

Edward said: "We can represent Russia in the Eurovision,
even though we don't speak Russian. We have so many fans in Russia."

And the Waterline lads are expecting a rapturous welcome there. John said:
"We haven't been in Russia yet, but when we do it's going to be the most craziest moment out of the world.

"When we get there, I don't know what's going to happen. The girls are
going to go crazy - they might even kidnap us and bring us to their house
and never let us go back."

Yesterday the quiff-haired brothers had a break from rehearsing to join
Sweden's entrant Loreen - giving her advice before the second semi-final.

Edward said: "We gave her some Jedward love, and some Jedward hugs.

"We were practising our dance moves with her because every contestant wants some Jedluck."

But If Jedward manage to lift the Eurovision title tomorrow night in Baku,
Azerbaijan, it would mean Dublin would be under siege next year.

Organisers announced that next year's final will take place on May 18 -
the same day the Heineken Cup final is set to be played at the Aviva Stadium.

Liams Eurovision Diary

Sleeping safe and sound

Security around the Eurovision delegations has been raised considerably in the last few days,
even though it was tight to begin with.

We woke up this morning and an airport-style metal detector had been
installed inside the door of our hotel.

We’ve always had a police escort with us but today we realised we also
had two carloads of plainclothes police too.

We wouldn’t have noticed except we travelled
out of the city and two silver jeeps with four
guys went all the way to our destination and back
with us. We have police outriders shouting through
speakers going ahead of us too. We asked our guides to
translate what they were shouting and they told us they were telling other
cars: “Eurovision — get out of the way!’’

Russian grannies better watch out

The international media have their own Eurovision scoreboard
which is updated everyday in the press room. A few days ago Jedward
were top of the betting to win Eurovision. Then they dropped to No.3 on
the media’s scoreboard behind the Russian grannies and the Swedish entry.

Now currently they’re at number 6 with Russia and Romania
at the top. I bet that will all change today when Jedward perform their second rehearsals in Crystal Hall. Then they’ll probably soar up the scoreboard again. We’ve finally worked out that whoever rehearses that day moves to the top of the leaderboard. The media are fickle people...

Roads of room for us

As if we weren’t getting enough special treatment over here, the authorities are closing the roads to all traffic except the buses of Eurovision delegations and security next week. The entire city centre is being closed for a week — kind of like closing down Dublin 1 and 2 for a week.

Traffic is bad here and they were afraid delegations would be delayed getting to and from Crystal Hall so they decided the only solution was closing the city. From Monday onwards, the streets will be empty!

Orphanage fans were real stars

No-one knew what to expect when we went to visit an orphanage in Azerbaijan.
It seemed like a lovely place where all the children look very well-cared for.
It turned out to be a special needs facility for children who have been abandoned or whose parents cannot
care for them. Many children learn music at the school and they were just dying to perform —
so Jedward didn’t even have to perform once!

Jedward smuggle bunnies to lap up five-star luxury

Ooh! According to the Irish Examiner Jedward have smuggled their new pet rabbits into their hotel!

Animal-mad pop duo Jedward have bought two pet rabbits in Baku in Azerbaijan and smuggled them into their five-star hotel room in the city.

The Lucan lads have christened the animals Euro and Vision and hope they will bring them good luck in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old pair tweeted: "They are awesome and they love being in our hotel room. They’re so fluffy and lovely. We both love animals. Back home in our mum’s house in Lucan, Co Dublin, we have five dogs, a parrot and a cat called Armani. Now we have two rabbits."

They reportedly slipped away from their minders to buy the rabbits at a market in the old city, where they have been based since Sunday.

A member of the RTÉ contingent revealed: "They literally smuggled the rabbits into their luxury hotel, the staff or management don’t seem to know about their presence. We don’t know what will happen when they discover them, which they’re bound to do now that the guys have been tweeting about them."

The twins are being accompanied by road manager Liam McKenna, their mother Susanna and mentor Linda Martin.

Jedward are planning an extravagant stage show, reportedly with a water theme for the final, but will have to get through the semi-finals first.

Jedward ska bära den Olympiska Elden

Från Irish Independent

MORE than 40 torch bearers will carry the Olympic flame through the streets of Dublin when it tours the only city outside the UK.

Eurovision hopefuls Jedward, former international footballer Paul McGrath and Tony Sutherland, father of the late Olympic boxer Darren, are among the latest list of relay runners revealed.

The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) said 41 torch bearers will take part a six hour dash that will include a cross border ceremony, a civic event, a run on the Skyline roof at Croke Park stadium and a relay around the Irish capital.

Organisers said the short, symbolic visit, will reflect the success of the peace process and the all island make-up of the Irish team for the London Olympic Games.

Pat Hickey, OCI president, said the event - on June 6 - will bring the spirit of the London Games to Dublin and start the countdown for the Irish team's challenge at the world's biggest sporting event.

"It has taken many, many months of lobbying at the highest international levels to get the permission required to bring the relay south," he said.

"All along, we have had the full support of Lord Sebastian Coe, chairman of LOCOG, the London Games organising committee, for this move."

The Olympic Torch's tour of Ireland begins in east Belfast on Sunday June 3, when 400 torchbearers will begin a four day relay around Northern Ireland.

Campaigners who have helped champion issues including disability awareness and suicide prevention will be among those to carry the torch through 60 towns and villages and famous landmarks, like the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge.

A series of events have also been organised to celebrate the Olympic spirit when the torch makes overnight stops in Derry, Portrush, Belfast and Newry.

Stormont Sports Minister, Sinn Fein's Caral Ni Chuilin, said of the torch run: "This is a real opportunity for the entire island to shine as the torch visits between June 3 and June 7."

There will be a short ceremony near the border as the torch travels to the Republic, with the handover between Irish Olympic boxing legends Wayne McCullough, from Belfast, and Michael Carruth, from Dublin.

Irish President, Michael D Higgins, will greet the first Dublin torch bearer in a ceremony outside the offices of the Olympic Council in Howth.

The convoy, which will include a vehicle with a miner's lantern holding the original Olympic Flame from Olympia in Greece, will move on to Croke Park - the home of GAA - before the first leg of the city relay starts.

The torch will pass several historical sites including the Garden of Remembrance, GPO, Custom House, St Patrick Cathedral, Christchurch and Dublin Castle before arriving at St Stephen's Green and going back to Northern Ireland.

Ireland's most famous Olympian, 77-year-old runner Ronnie Delany, 71-year-old paralympian Anne Ebbs, rugby star Shane Horgan, boxer Kenneth Egan, suicide prevention worker Joan Freeman and John Collins, who will represent the Traveller community, will be among the proud members of the rely team.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague said the relay will gives Dublin a wonderful opportunity to share in the London 2012 experience.

"On June 6 Dublin will become the only city outside of Greece and the UK to host the Olympic Flame. This is a huge honour and I call on all Dubliners to come out on the streets and cheer our torch bearers in what will be a great day for Dublin," he said.

Can't forget you

It's like a Shot Trough the Heart
like a light in the dark
that morning when you left me in my bed
and when you walked out the door
I wouldn't see you anymore
and I thought you were joking now
I can't close what you've opened
gone crazy its like I've left it too late
one wish to have one chance to say
what if I told you that I can forget you
nothing I can do will ever get you out of my head
cuz I remember everything you said
and I'm sorry that I can't forget you
sometimes i wish I never met you
doesnt matter what I do im trying but i can't forget you

PS. Min är "Happens in the dark".

Ny Jedward fakta frå eurovision.tv

Från eurovision.tv:

Jedward make Irish Eurovision Song Contest history as for the first time Ireland sends the same act two years in a row.

Last the year the pop duo came 8th in the contest with Lipstick – Ireland's best result in the contest for 11 years. Lipstick went on to chart in Belgium, Sweden, Germany and Austria, where it peaked at number 3.

Shortly after their success in the Eurovision Song Contest, Jedward returned to Ireland where they performed in front of an audience of 60,000 people at a concert to welcome US President Barack Obama to Ireland.

The past 12 months have been the busiest for the twins yet – they came 3rd in the UK's Celebrity Big Brother; they released their second album, Bad Behaviour and completed a sell-out tour across Ireland, UK, Germany, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, and Austria.

Jedward were selected to represent Ireland again this year after winning the Irish Eurosong selection competition, topping both the public and jury vote in February. They are performing Waterline. The twins are being mentored this year by Irish Eurovision winner, Linda Martin, who won the contest in 1992 with Why Me.

Waterline was composed by Nick Jarl and Sharon Vaughn. Nick is a songwriter/music producer from Sweden and has written songs for the likes of Westlife, Ironik! As well as songs for numerous Scandinavian acts.

Sharon Vaughn is an American songwriter living in Sweden who has composed hits for artists all over the world including Boyzone, Willie Nelson, The Wanted, Clay Aiken, Jay Smith (Swedish Pop Idol Winner), Stefanie Heinzmann, Aslan, Jedward and many more.

"Put your Green Cape"

Jedworld Kolumn

Från Irisht Star:

Cool it, guys, Tara's just our big sis!

Hey you guys, stop sending all those death threats to Tara Reid. Tara is totally cool but she's definitely not my girlfriend. Or John's. She's like a big sister to both of us. We toured all around Ireland with Tara. We got into loads of places free too!

We got lost and stopped this lady for directions to Aillwee Cave in the Burren and it turned out she owned the place and she brought us there and reopened the place just for us and Tara!

We bought a really expensive cool fossil in the shop there. And we met loads of old ladies at the Blarney Stone and we did handstands at the Cliffs of Moher.

And we had a candlelit dinner with Tara but it wasn't romantic. You don't have romantic dinners with your sister!

So we spent a lot of cash on our little adventure around Ireland, but we've spent far more of our own money on Eurovision.

We don't know how much. Someone said it was €50,000- but me and John haven't even counted it yet.

RTE still rock but they can't afford to pay for everything so we are doing some things ourselves.

We made the video ourselves and we're paying for the kind of stuff that we want but RTE can't pay for- extra costumes and maybe special effects and that sort of thing.

We are planning some of the coolest costumes and we have ideas for some of the most amazing special effects that are totally top secret and are totally crazy.

We've been trying to see which ones will work and which ones are safe this week.

And then maybe Waterline will get sponsered by a big water company or something and we'll get all the money back.

But me and John don't really care because Eurovision was the highlight of 2011 for us and it will be the highlight for us in 2012 too when we win it!

We're getting our own documentary!

Hey guys- RTE are making this really cool documentary about us.

It's all about me and John going to Eurovision and it's going to be broadcast a week or so after the Song Contest.

It's going to capture everything about our journey to Eurovision and everyone who's working with us.

They're recording everything that's happening- from the outfits to the special effects and all the planning that goes into it.

We don't know what it's going to be called yet but it'll probably be called 'Winners!'

We performed a kind of practice run for Eurovision in Amsterdam last weekend. It was a big show called Eurovision in Concert.

We got to meet the French singer, Anguun, who is really, really cool.

And we got to meet hundreds of fans there and we bought new wooden shoes called clogs which are way too big for us.

And this cycling dude fell off his bicycle when we saw us and he told us he lived in Azerbaijan for 17 years.

We also did a cover shoot for VIP magazine there and appeared on Dutch TV show Life 4 You.

Heli of a price to pay for lift

We nearly hired a helicopter to bring us to see the Backstreet Boys in the O2 last Saturday night.

We had our tickets and backstage passes and we had loads of things that we wanted to get signed- but we were at the other side of the country in Co Clare.

It was too late to drive back in time which put the whole helicopter idea into our heads.

But they were looking for way too much money- it was like €10,000 or something way totally crazy.

We even said that the helicopter was for Jedward but that just made the price go up again!

We were really sad to miss the show because we're totally Jedicated fans of the Backstreet Boys.

Meeting them backstage at the X Factor when we were on the show was one of the best nights of our lives. We'll never, ever forget it. They were so cool and spent lots of time with us and they even arranged to get us tickets to see them at the O2 arena in London.

The Backstreet Boys are the band who inspired me and John to be popstars. They are totally Jepic so we're definitely going to see them again!

Louis was twin it to win it

Here we are with our tour manager Liam Mckenna and RTE star Derek Mooney and world famous Eurovision star Linda Martin!

We were in Bristol for the filming of Channel 4's Celebrity Deal or No Deal- which stars our manager Louis Walsh.

We were with all his friends and family on the show.

We're not allowed to tell you what Louis won.. but let's just say it was lots!
